Frankly, I don’t have a lot of visual stuff to show for this week but take a look at this log! I did all of this in the last week! It’s been a big week in BYTE and I now have all the core content. It’s playable from start to finish (it took me an hour and 45 minutes O_O) and could be put out now, but I still have a lot to do.
The big things that I added for this week were the final two side battles in the final week of work. These battles allow Jonathan to investigate the computer further in the office and learn more about Dracula from the files hidden on the PC. They both reuse battles from earlier in the game, which I wanted to do to try and reinforce the mechanics and give the player the ability to show that they remember and understand everything. I also wrote the accompanying scenes for winning and losing these battles.
I also added a handful of scenes that I forgot to write before (the scenes for when Jonathan installs the DJ software on the computers), which shouldn’t add much more time to the playtime, but just round it all out nicely.
As you can see from the backlog screenshot, though, I also did approximately twenty other things that do not fall into either of these two main tasks. These were mostly small polish things, spelling errors, and narrative communication issues that I could fix quickly. Somewhat miraculously, I finished about 30% of all the tasks that I had remaining in my backlog, but the remainder of the tasks will all take much longer to finish.
Those tasks largely center around updating the save/load system, creating the Palm Pilot pause menu, adding additional battle juice/UI for communication purposes, and a handful of art revisions. I’ll be starting on the save/load system for next week. I’m hoping it will just take me one week to finish that, but it might take a little longer. I want to ensure I’m future-proofing it as much as possible. After that, I’ll start the Palm Pilot and the battle additions. From there we’ll see how much time I have left after.
