BIG WEEK IN BYTE!
This week in BYTE my goal was to complete the second week of content, introducing Jonathan (and the player) to Keons, Dracula’s friend, and getting the player to unlock the chapel.
And, well, MEET KEONS

Keons is Dracula’s friend and a priest at the local church. Dracula enlists his help to organize a wedding at the castle (you’ll find out who later *wink*). In the new week, Keons asks Jonathan to help him prepare the chapel for the wedding, beginning by unlocking the chapel before the end of the day on Friday.
Other plot scenes include Dracula seeing a picture of Jonathan’s fiance Mina for the first time and Jonathan gaining access to the Solarium, Entry Hall, and garden outside the chapel.
Getting all of these scenes in was a real process but was also quicker than I felt it should be. Writing all the scenes took a while, and there were a handful of minor little tweaks I needed to make to get everything to work, but for the most part, I was actually able to get all of the new scenes and the new battle in pretty smoothly.

It was pretty cool to think of a new thing I needed to do, dread the fact that it would probably take a while, and then be pleasantly surprised to discover that I had, many months ago, anticipated this very issue and designed whatever system I made to account for potential new things. This was particularly noticeable when I was adding a new deadline day where Jonathan can drink coffee and thought I would have to re-code most of that script because I had hard-coded the one day in as a coffee day. Much to my delight, though, I had already made an array to store the different deadline days and didn’t need to code a thing.
Other small things I did were some light adjustments to the door and making Keons’ character art. I’m hoping that this week I’ll have time to add the entire next week of content. This should be a lot easier than the previous week because there will be less dialogue and essentially just three battles I’ll need to make, along with the chapel space. Realistically, this won’t happen in a single week, but I’m setting the goal with the hope that it will motivate me to get it all done.
